I'm not a "consumer"

Corporations want you to be a 'consumer'. Government regards you as a 'taxpayer'. In both cases you are the cash cow to be milked to fuel their growth.
I am not a "consumer"; I am a citizen. I am not a 'demographic' to be sold a bill of goods; I am the owner of this country, and the politicians are the hired help that are supposed to be managing it for me.
Instead of leadership we get lies; instead of public policy based on logic and common sense and forethought we get warmed-over ideology. And it all gets wrapped in feel-good messages about how wonderful a job our esteemed leaders are doing.
The current government in Ottawa was elected by a very small percentage of the population; less than a third of the population said they wanted Stephen Harper as Prime Minister. How did this absurd situation occur in a supposed democracy?
As a citizen, I am tired of my vote not counting; so are a lot of people, judging by the fact that more didn't bother to show up at the polls than voted for any party.
Do you understand what that means, Stephen and Michael and Jack? It means that when offered the choice of one of you as leader, most people chose none of the above!
Congratulations on lowering the bar so far that most people don't care which clown is running the circus.
